Lavandula x intermedia 'Edelweiss'
Perennial: Hardy Zones 5-11
One of the few white flowering lavender varieties! This elegant
compact variety is extremely aromatic can be used for cooking
and in sachets. Typically faster growing and produce longer stems and broader leaves than the augustifolia group.
Like any other variety, Edelweiss lavender must be located in full
sun and planted in well drained alkaline sandy soil, ideally in a
raised bed or rock garden as it is prone to root rot if conditions are too wet. Perfect for borders, rock gardens and containers, especially when paired with standard purple blossom varieties. After the
second year of growth, begin pruning once or twice a year, cutting back a third of its foliage. This will help maintain its shape, leaf and flower production as well as prevent woodyness. Varieties in the intermedia group are typically the latest to bloom, occurring right
after those in the augustifolia group have finished, beginning in
July until late summer. Height 60-80cm.
